A cracking line-up of 10 local bands will help a North East music venue celebrate its 10th birthday.
The O2 Academy in Newcastle is marking a decade of gigs by holding an extra-special one tomorrow night.
It opened its doors on 14 October 2005 with an all-local line-up headlined by Sunderland band The Futureheads, and also featuring Field Music and Kubichek!
Tomorrow it will repeat the exercise, with a mammoth 10-band line-up to mark 10 years of gigs, with tickets costing £10.
The show will be headlined by South Tyneside/Washington indie combo Little Comets, and they will be joined by an array of local up and coming bands.
They include Sunderland duo Hyde & Beast, whose drummer Dave Hyde appeared at the opening night as a member of The Futureheads.
The full line-up is:
• Little Comets
• Hyde & Beast
• Du Blonde
• Cape Cub
• Street Party In Soho
• Tessera Skies
The final two spaces on the bill will be filled by unsigned acts who were voted for by the public and a panel of expert judges from the local media and music industry.
Paul Twynham, general manager of the venue, said: “Over the last decade, it’s been a privilege to see so many talented artists grace our stage, from new and emerging successes to internationally acclaimed acts.
“For this anniversary, we wanted to focus on the incredible array of talent in the region and have a real celebration of our heritage and local artists, 10 great bands, all for a tenner.”
