ALBUM REVIEW: Hayseed Dixie - Hair Down To My Grass

HAYSEED DIXIE ... Hair Down To My Grass (Hayseed Records)

FORMED in Tennessee 15 years ago, Hayseed Dixie laid down the blueprint for the genre known as rockgrass, which blends rock and bluegrass, and while others have followed, none have done so as well.

They’ve tried their hand at covering AC/DC, Queen, Kiss and Motorhead, among others, and here they turn their attention to 1980s big-haired metal, inspired by the Survivor song Eye Of The Tiger.

As ever, some songs lend themselves better to the acoustic guitar & bass, banjo and mandolin format better than others.

My favourites of the 12 tracks here are their take on Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’, Twisted Sister’s We’re Not Gonna Take It and Aerosmith’s Dude Looks Like A Lady.

Not to be taken too seriously. 7/10. GW
