MENACE Beach are Leeds lo-fi merchants Ryan Needham and Liza Violet, plus an ever-changing gang of support players, and this is their debut album.
Anyone who enjoyed grungey 90s act like Pavement, Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine would be advised to check it out.
It’s 12 tracks check in at a very palatable 33 minutes, and there’s nary a wasted one among them, with sugar-sweet vocals rising above distorted guitars and fuzzy bass and drums.
Lowtalkin, the title track and Tastes Like Medicine are my favourite moments, but this is a fine debut which promises much for the future. 7/10. GW
