Christmas came early for South Tyneside singer Abi Garrido when she found out she’ll be sharing a stage with pop star Olly Murs.
The 18-year-old, from Jarrow, will be kicking things off at Metro Radio Christmas Live later this year.
She’ll join the singer and X Factor host on stage at the Metro Radio Arena, in Newcastle, on Monday, December 7, after coming out on top of Metro Radio’s Big Audition.
She’ll follow in the footsteps of South Shields band The Waiters, who won the contest last year.
Abi, who was named the Gazette’s Young Performer of the Year in 2012, said: “I’m just so excited. It’s an amazing opportunity and it’s going to be the best Christmas present ever.
“It’s just going to be so amazing to share the stage with people like Olly Murs and to be able to meet them backstage and ask them for advice.
“They’re where I want to be. Singing is all I want to do, so to get to meet them and sing at the same gig as them is just unbelievable – I still can’t get my head round it.”
Other acts include X Factor winner Ben Haenow, Dappy, Blonde and Lunchmoney, with more still to be announced.
Abi added: “I’ve got a few ideas about what I’m going to sing but I want it to be a surprise. All my friends and family have got tickets and I can’t believe they’re going to be watching me sing at the Arena. I’ve been there so many times to see concerts and now I’ll be in one. It’ll be the best Christmas ever.”
Tickets for the 6.45pm gig cost from £25. To book, go to www.metroradioarena.co.uk or call 0844 493 6666.
