A club owner is aiming to revive South Shields town centre’s dwindling nightlife with his new dual venue.

Peter Frail says the town centre is due for a turnaround and aims to offer the best of both worlds with his live music venue The Ranch House and nightclub Dusk.

The double club, in Coston Drive, South Shields, stood as Dusk for years, but when Peter took it over, he refurbished it and originally named it Club Sandy.

Now, it’s had another makeover, being transformed into The Ranch House downstairs and Dusk upstairs.

Peter, from South Shields, said: “The venue was too big the way it was. It had a 1,300 to 1,400 capacity and never filled up, but now I’ve split it in two to give people two different things.

“The clubs are separate and both have their own entrance. Downstairs is all about the live music, while upstairs is a nightclub.

I sold The Sand Dancer because I wanted to invest my money in the town centre and help bring it back.

“The town centre is massively coming back and I’ve noticed more people going out over the last six months, and I think it’s only going to get busier and busier.

“I sold The Sand Dancer because I wanted to invest my money in the town centre and help bring it back.”

He added: “I want to offer diversity in the town centre so people can go out and maybe see some live music then go to a club where a DJ is on afterwards, if they want.

“In the town centre it used to be just DJs everywhere and there weren’t any options for people, but a few venues are doing more live music now and I want to offer both.

“Some place you go to watch live music you end up listening to it from round a corner, but The Ranch House isn’t like that, it’s a proper venue for live music, where everyone can see what’s going on.

“I’ve bought the back of Viva as well and I’m going to turn that into a brew house and cocktail merchants called Tinker Smith’s.

“It’ll serve food too and be a bit like The Botanist is in Newcastle. I think over the next few months people are going to see a real increase in the nightlife in the town centre – it’s coming back.”

The Ranch House offers live music Wednesday to Sunday nights, while Dusk is open on Fridays and Saturdays.
