Sunderland sounds will be hitting the high seas for a series of floating concerts.
It’s been announced that homegrown talent Frankie & the Heartstrings as well as Hyde & Beast will perform while a DJ set from Field Music will also feature on a music mini cruise from Newcastle to Amsterdam this autumn.
The bands will be joined on the cruise, which departs on Friday, November 18, by snooker legend turned DJ Steve Davis, as well as folk group Cornshed Sisters.
Dave Harper, drummer with the Heartstrings, said: “This will definitely be one of the more unusual gigs we’ve done, it’s a bit like being in limbo as I won’t be able to say what country we’re in when we take to the stage.
“Steve is a great DJ, he came to our first album launch and is a real prog rock and Northern Soul music fan.
“The prices start from £63 for the cruise and I don’t think you’d be able to see all those bands and pay for accommodation for cheaper than that anywhere else.”
Hosted by ferry operator DFDS, the North Sea Sounds Mini Cruises will begin on September 30 with Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club and Smoove & Turrell.
Other dates announced include Lindisfarne & Martin Stephenson, departing on Sunday, October 16, and the Bowie Ball, a tribute to the music of the late great David Bowie, which departs on Friday, December 2.
Prices for the autumn mini cruises start from £63 per person, including en suite cabin accommodation on board and up to five hours to explore the Dutch capital.
