ANNIVERSARY TOUR ... '80s band The Christians.

AN ’80s band is coming to South Tyneside tomorrow night as part of a milestone celebration.

The Christians are celebrating their 25th anniversary with a string of gigs, including a date at the Customs House, in Mill Dam, South Shields.

The six-piece band, named after the surname of the three brothers that were originally in the line-up, have just released a new album, Speed of Life, as well as special editions of their albums, The Christians and Colour, to celebrate the anniversary.

Lead singer Garry Christian said: “This is a big year for the band and we’ve been non-stop since January, but it’s been fantastic.

“It’s so great to think that, after all these years, people are still coming out to see us, and still enjoying our music.

“We’ve been spotting a lot of younger faces in the crowds recently, and it’s great that we’re still getting new fans.

“We always look forward to going to South Shields, and we’ve played at the Customs House about four times before.

“It’s not really like we’re on tour, because normally you record an album then set off on tour, but we just keep getting calls asking if we can play somewhere on a certain night, and we go along.

“We all just love performing, so we’re having a brilliant time, and it’s thanks to our fans that we can keep doing it.”

The Christians are at the Customs House on Friday from 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £18.50, with a £17.50 concession.

To book, go to or call the box office on 454 1234.

n We’ve got a signed and personalised copy of the band’s new album, Speed of Life, to give away.
