Hebburn funnyman Jason Cook says he can’t believe how popular his swinging comedy band has become.
The stand-up comic and creator of BBC2 sitcom Hebburn recently joined forces with fellow Hebburn stars Steffen Peddie and Neil Grainger, and swing singer Glen Roughead to create the Geordie Rat Pack.
What started off as a one-off performance at a charity gig has led to the lads selling out gig after gig and securing a legion of fans.
Jason, 42, said: “We’ve been blown away by the demand for tickets. We’ve got a gig where the focus is jokes, great music and heavy drinking, and we couldn’t ask for more really.
“Every time we’ve announced a gig, the tickets have been selling out really quickly and we just can’t believe it. Every gig is different but also a lot of fun, and it’s just been amazing.”
The Geordie Rat Pack has so far played sold-out gigs at the Sage Gateshead and The Stand Newcastle, and they sold out next year’s gig at the Customs House, South Shields, in just 36 hours.
Now, they’ve announced a further two shows – at Stockton Arc on February 25 and an Easter Eggstravaganza at The Stand Newcastle on March 13, but only limited tickets remain.
Jason said: “This all started off because Glen had a charity gig and asked us to come along and do a bit of stand up and we joked on saying we’d be the Geordie Rat Pack, and then it just ended up happening.
“We’ve sold out every gig we’ve done so far and it’s just unbelievable, we’re so happy about it. It’s the one job we’ve got where we have a bar on the stage and don’t ever really remember how they end. We love doing the shows.
“I’ve always loved a bit of Sinatra and getting to stand up on a stage singing those songs for a sell-out crowd is just amazing.”
