Iconic War of the Worlds coming to the stage

A critically-acclaimed adaption of an iconic science fiction classic is to be staged in South Tyneside.

Jarrow Hall is playing host to Newcastle-based theatre company Northern Stage when they performing their touring production of ‘The War of the Worlds’ for the first time in October.

The new production relocates H.G. Wells’ classic to the North East of England in an inventive re-telling of the story.

Jarrow Hall is operated by Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle working with South

Tyneside Council – which owns the Jarrow Hall land and buildings – and Northern Stage is the largest producing theatre company in the North East of England and regarded as one of the most important producing theatres in the UK.

Matt Runham, senior producer at Northern Stage, said “We are delighted to be performing The War of the Worlds at Jarrow Hall in the Autumn. It’s great to be able to take work out on tour to different venues. We are hoping this is the start of a longer-term relationship at Jarrow Hall.”
