REVEALING INSIGHTS ... mind reader Luke Jermay is performing at the Customs House as part of the South Tyneside International Magic Festival.

A MIND reader is hoping the fun he has at a borough magic event is no illusion.

Luke Jermay is heading to the South Tyneside International Magic Festival.

The performer, who had his own show, dubbed Mind Reader, in Las Vegas for six years, will be giving a lecture to other magicians as well as performing for the public.

Luke, originally from Essex, will be on stage at the Customs House in Mill Dam, South Shields, at the first of two International Gala Shows on Friday, March 13.

He said: “Magic is part of a huge heritage and history and people don’t realise that a lot of magicians, like Dynamo, don’t come up with their own tricks, they get them from other people.

“And one of the main perks of events like this is that it continues to preserve that history of magic where magicians can get together and learn from each other.”

Luke’s act sees him invite audience members to think about things like their favourite schoolteacher, their childhood pet, or the name of their best friend, as he reads their mind to reveal the answer.

He added: “It’s my job to perform every night so I’m really looking forward to doing the Gala Show.

“I do always have a fun time in Newcastle and the surrounding areas. I actually saw a show at this festival last year and it was a really good audience.”

The festival, run annually by South Tyneside Council, sees magicians travel from across the world to attend conferences, lectures and perform for the public.

The week-long event will include a series of performances in schools across the borough, along with a Family Magic Extravaganza and two Gala Shows at the Customs House, South Shields.

Tickets for the International Gala Show that Luke is performing in cost £14 with a £13 concession.
