The stars of a hit 90s film are bringing some Irish soul to South Shields.
The Stars From The Commitments will be on stage at the Customs House, in Mill Dam, on Sunday.
The nine-piece soul band is on tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of film The Commitments.
Released in 1991, it followed the formation, rise and fall of an Irish soul band made up of working-class Dubliners.
Ken McCluskey played bassist Derek Scully in the film.
He now plays guitar in the band, along with fellow original cast member Michael Aherne, who played pianist Steven Clifford, and a host of talented musicians.
It’s amazing to think it’s been 25 years since the film came out. It’s gone by so fast and that’s probably the scariest thing.Ken McCluskey
They perform gigs across the world playing songs from the film soundtrack, including Mustang Sally, Try A Little Tenderness and In The Midnight Hour.
Ken said: “It’s amazing to think it’s been 25 years since the film came out. It’s gone by so fast and that’s probably the scariest thing.
“I think the older I get, the more I appreciate it. I was motivated differently when I was younger, but now I realise how lucky I am to be able to get on stage every night and play these brilliant songs that are still so great after all this time.
“The show is a celebration of the film and of soul music and it’s a real testament to how great these songs are.
“I’ve never been to South Shields before so I’m really looking forward to it. The show is about more than the film, it’s for people who like great music and seeing great musicians play live.”
Tickets for the 7.30pm show cost £24.
