Funnyman Jason Cook is bringing another TV name to South Tyneside for his first ever comedy festival.
Tom Allen has appeared on programmes like 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and the Channel 4 Comedy Gala.
Now, he’s coming to the Customs House, in South Shields, as part of the line up for the South Tyneside Comedy Festival.
The comic, who is currently supporting South Shields comedian Sarah Millican on her sold out UK tour, will be on stage at the Mill Dam venue on Saturday, July 30.
Festival director Jason, who created BBC2 sitcom Hebburn, said: “Tom is currently supporting Sarah Millican on tour and he got in touch with me to ask if he could do a spot at the festival.
“He’s not the only person to do that so it’s a great sign of the reputation the festival has before it’s even begun.
“I’ve seen Tom many times and he’s amazing. He’s an incredible joke writer as well which it why he goes on so many TV shows, and he’s yet another TV name added to our rosta.
“As festival director, I can’t recommend enough that people go see him.”
After a huge response to the festival, Jason is hopeful that it will become an annual event.
He said: “We’ve sold more than 2,000 tickets already and it hasn’t even started yet.
“The response has been amazing, there are so many people wanting tickets, and so many people wanting to see a comedy festival in South Tyneside.
“I’ve already got comics asking me if they can have a spot for next year, and the reputation can only grow from here.
“I’m so excited for it to get started and to get people through the doors at the Customs House.”
The 10-day festival kicks off on Friday, July 29.
Tom’s show kicks off at 4pm and tickets cost £6. To book, go to www.customshouse.co.uk or call the box office on 0191 454 1234. Tickets for all other acts are available from the website.
