A MUSICAL sequel is on its way to the region – and you could be there on opening night.

Made up of the sounds of the swingin’ sixties, Dreamboats and Miniskirts is coming to the Theatre Royal, in Newcastle.

The show, which follows on from Dreamboats and Petticoats, is at the venue from Tuesday, January 20 to Saturday, January 24.

Dreamboats and Miniskirts is set in 1963, when the world is changing.

It follows the lives of Petticoats characters Bobby and Laura, whose single Dreamboats and Petticoats is only half a hit, Norman and Sue, who have settled down to non-marital bliss and a baby, and Ray and Donna, who seem blissfully happy.

Washington-born actress Elizabeth Carter stars as Laura.

She said: “We’ve been touring since July last year and just started up again after Christmas, and I’m so excited for the week in Newcastle.

“I’ve played Laura before in Dreamboats and Petticoats and she’s my favourite character – I love playing her.

“The songs I get to sing in Miniskirts are brilliant. The show basically takes the central characters from Petticoats and catches up with them three years down the line.

“It’s the start of the 1960s and all the music in the show is from that era.

“When I did Petticoats, I hardly knew any of the songs at first, but with Miniskirts, we’re starting to get into the music my parents listened to while I was growing up so I know it a lot more.”

The 29-year-old added: “The show is so much fun and it’s the kind where everyone leaves in a good mood.

“You can only really see the first few rows because of the lights, but it’s so lovely to look out and see everyone tapping their feet and singing along.

“Some shows go down better in some places, but this show has been getting such a great reaction no matter where we’ve been.

“Newcastle is going to be the big one for me though. I grew up going to see shows there so it’s a dream come true to be performing there in a leading role.”

Tickets for the show cost from £14. To book, go to or call the box office on 08448 112 121.

We’ve got a pair of tickets to give away for the opening night show at 7.30pm.
