The 18-year-old said: “I was really surprised when I was offered a place because I knew how competitive the auditions were and what a fantastic opportunity it is.

Project A is a one year actor training programme led by an artistic director and supported by leading industry specialists.

Delivered from within Newcastle’s Theatre Royal over an academic year, participants will gain professional standard actor training culminating in a production term to be performed in the Studio Theatre and toured locally.

Fiona Kelly, the Custom House’s cultural development officer and Youth Theatre director, said: “I am really delighted Andrew has been successful in being chosen to be part of Project A.

“It is an amazing opportunity to develop as an actor. He has a lot to offer the course as well as a fantastic opportunity to gain the skill needed to continue in his chosen career.

“Andrew showed he had potential very early on and he has always been willing to put in extra time and effort to achieve his goals.

“Everyone at the Customs House Youth Theatre is completely behind him and we all know he will do well.”

Customs House executive director, Ray Spencer, added: “It is terrific to see another success from our Youth Theatre and we wish Andrew the very best in his new venture.”

The Customs House Youth Theatre meets at the Mill Dam venue every Friday.

Both the junior and senior groups are oversubscribed, but to be added to the waiting list, contact Fiona on 0191 427 8188, or email Fiona@customshouse.co.uk for more information.
