9. Observe Experiment Archive, Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens
Observe Experiment Archive is at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens from November 15 to January 5. The display explores the parallels between photography and scientific methods such as observation, experimentation and archiving. It features new commissioned photography by Tessa Bunney, Liza Dracup, and Robert Zhao Renhui and existing work by Mandy Barker, Sophie Ingleby, Helen McGhie, Maria McKinney, Penelope Umbrico.

10. Ice skating at Beamish, from November 16
Get your skates on for Beamish Museum's Open Air Ice Rink which will be running daily from November 16 to January 5 - closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Years' Day. The ice rink is at the Fairground and is decorated in a traditional Edwardian style with festoon lighting. Ice rink tickets, including skate hire, cost £4 for children and £5 for adults, for at least a 20 minute session. Special offer: For every full paying adult, one child skates free of charge.
