South Shields dad becomes worldwide sensation with reaction to eerie Netflix coronavirus prediction
A video featuring a South Shields reaction to an eerie prediction of COVID-19 on Netflix has become a worldwide phenomenon.
Adam Nowell, 40, was watching South Korean series My Secret Terrius, which was made two years ago, on Netflix when he noticed that the fictional storyline had similarities to the current pandemic.
In episode 10 of the series, which was released in 2018, characters are discussing a mutated coronavirus which is being used as a weapon by terrorists.
In eerie similarities to the current crisis, the doctor in the show explains that the fictional virus directly attacks the lungs, has an incubation period of two to 14 days, and that there’s no vaccine or cure at the moment.
The virus in the show, however, has a mortality rate of 90%, whereas the COVID-19 mortality rate is much lower.
Adam filmed his observations on the show and shared it on Facebook, where it’s been viewed more than 1.1million times and shared by tens of thousands of people. It’s also been racking up views on other platforms, bringing the total to 6million views.
Dad-of-six Adam said: “I’d ran out of things to watch on Netflix so started watching this South Korean show with subtitles, just for something a bit different.
“The similarities of the coronavirus in the show with what’s happening now is mad.”
The rope access technician added: “I never expected that many people to watch it, but it’s been shared all over the world. I used to live in Australia and I’ve got friends over there who say their neighbours have been showing them the video, not knowing that they know me. My inbox has gone crazy and is filled with messages.”
Coronavirus is a group of viruses which cause respiratory problems, strains of which include SARS, MERS and the more recently discovered COVID-19.
Adam added: “It’s weird because Netflix seem to have taken that episode down but the rest of the series is still there.” You can watch Adam’s full video here.
