Melissa McCarthy is Queen of the underdogs in this hilarious spy movie with a difference.

After dreaming of becoming an agent, Susan Cooper (McCarthy) becomes one of the desk-bound unsung heroes of the CIA, the eyes and ears of James Bond-type agent Bradley Fine (Jude Law).

But when a lethal female enemy, Rayna Boyanov (Rose Byrne), who is peddling nuclear explosives, reveals she knows the identity of all the CIA’s working agents, Susan must go out in the field.

Susan doesn’t seem like the most capable person when it comes to chasing down bad guys, fist fights, and fending off armed attacks, but she’s surprisingly sprightly and a real force to be reckoned with.

McCarthy is one of the biggest comedy actors of the moment and her performance in this movie is absolutely spectacular.

Her foul-mouthed verbal attacks, feisty fight scenes and the way violent deaths make her stomach turn, provide plenty of laugh out loud moments.

The film is very character driven, from McCarthy’s unexpected ferocity and Law’s dashing dexterity to Jason Statham’s over-the-top manliness as agent Rick Ford and Miranda Hart’s awkward silliness as CIA desker Nancy Artingstall, there’s plenty to work with.

Their interactions with each other are dangerously funny.

Byrne is fantastic as the female supervillain. Having her and McCarthy on opposite sides of the fence works brilliantly.

Carlos Ponce is another wonderful addition to the film as sexually-charged agent Matthew Wright. His rather graphic flirtation with Susan is fabulously funny.

I laughed hysterically from start to finish. It’s definitely one to raise a few chuckles and brighten up your day.

This female-centric film is one that really hits home the message that us girls can do anything that the boys can.

I laughed hysterically from start to finish. It’s definitely one to raise a few chuckles and brighten up your day.

Parts of it are quite violent and graphic, but no matter how toe-curlingly disgusting it gets – and it does – it’s still somehow hilarious.
