Mill Dam, in South Shields, was transformed into a film set as the Steamboat pub and the Mission to Seafarers were used as locations for the hit ITV show.
The star of the series, Brenda Blethyn, who plays title character Det Ch Insp Vera Stanhope, was reportedly on set.
Blethyn has starred in dozens of films, including Little Voice, in 1998, and Saving Grace, in 2000.
The show, which has been running since 2011, is based on a series of novels by crime author Ann Cleeves.

The show has been filmed in South Shields before. Last year, Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, on the seafront, became the scene of a murder, with Vera on the case.
The film-makers utilised the unique views, with scenes shot at the Sea View Cafe, on the promenade, and at Littlehaven during two days of shooting.
It is not known what the storyline of yesterday’s scenes will entail.
The popular show is also screened in the US, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, and many other places around places around the globe.
