Little yellow creatures took over a South Tyneside cinema to celebrate the release of a new family flick.

A pair of mischievous Minions were the special guests at Cineworld in Abingdon Way, Boldon Colliery.

The characters, provided by Micky’s Castles, were at the cinema to greet youngsters heading in to see Minions.

The cinema’s supervisor, Jess Adie, said: “We absolutely loved meeting the Minions.

“It’s fantastic when we can bring children’s favourite movie characters down to the cinema for them to meet.

“The atmosphere was brilliant and the Minions were just as cheeky – if not more – in real life.”

The U-certificate film is a spin-off of animated hit Despicable Me and goes back in time to follow the creatures before they appeared in the flick.

Set in the 1960s, it sees the Minions searching for a master to serve.

Their quest takes them to New York where they discover the world’s first female supervillain, Scarlett Overkill, who is voiced by Sandra Bullock.

Since the dawn of time, the Minions have served many masters, including the dinosaurs, Ancient Egyptians and Dracula.

Minions is in cinemas now in 2D and 3D. Tickets to see it at Cineworld Boldon cost from £5.90. To book, go to www.cineworld.co.uk or call the box office on 0871 200 2000.
