Movie fans in South Tyneside are snapping up tickets for the new Star Wars film after tickets became available to pre-book this week.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is released in cinemas across the UK on Thursday, December 17, and to celebrate, Cineworld Cinemas in Boldon will be screening special midnight showings.

A spokesman for Cineworld Cinemas said: “We’ve had a huge demand for tickets since they were released on Monday, over 90% have been sold already for our 2D midnight screening.”

But all isn’t lost for those who don’t want to miss out on being the first to see the seventh instalment of the space saga.

The spokesman added: “We still have tickets remaining for the 3D midnight screening, with over 55% sold so far.

“We’d urge any keen Star Wars fans who wish to see the film during these special late night showings to pre-book straight away.”

More than 750 tickets were sold so far for screenings at the Boldon cinema on the first day of release.
