SOUTH Shields singing sensation Joe McElderry has been showing off his sensitive side.

The 19-year-old Westoe lad has taken part in no less than three charity concerts in less than a week.

On Friday night, Joe took to the stage alongside the likes of JLS, Olly Murs, The Saturdays and Tinchy Stryder at The Troxy, in east London.

The Sunshine Concert, which also featured Britain’s Got Talent winners George Sampson and Spelbound, was in aid of the Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity, which grants wishes for seriously ill children in the UK aged between three and 18.

After the gig, Joe told fans on Twitter: “So much fun on stage. Met some amazing brave children!! What a fantastic night!!! X”

Last night, closer to home, Joe was taking part in Josie’s Dragonfly Variety Show.

The show, which also featured fellow South Tynesider John Miles, as well as former Steps singer Faye Tozer and crooner Jason Isaacs, was raising money for Josie’s Dragonfly Trust at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle.

Josie’s Dragonfly was set up by Josie Grove, from Corbridge, Northumberland – a teenager who was determined to help other children with cancer as she faced her last months.

The trust provides a cash gift of £500 to children with cancer when they are told there is nothing more doctors can do.

It also marked the last show at the Theatre Royal, which is now closed for refurbishment. Finally, a show in which Joe sang two Beatles tracks made the hat-trick of charity gigs.

The former Harton Technology College student joined a host of celebrities including Vernon Kay, Keith Lemon, comedian Rich Hall and many more to front a live band and perform classic tunes Come Together and Drive My Car in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital on Tuesday.

n Joe is also doing his bit for comic Relief by joining the Twit Relief campaign.

Celebrities and prolific Tweeters are auctioning off the chance to be super-followed by a star. Bidding for Joe already stands at £400.
