A coach company is hoping its new Christmas Day Sunderland service will prove just the ticket.
National Express has announced it will be serving Sunderland for the first time ever on Christmas Day.
The coach operator will be running a December 25 service from its Chester Road stop outside the University of Sunderland.
Coaches will travel to London’s Victoria Coach Station via Middlesbrough, Darlington and Heathrow Airport at 13.30pm and 23.15pm.
The company decided to launch the service after warnings that there could be two hundred rail projects and major station closures this Christmas. They
include London Paddington, which is completely shut for six days from Christmas Eve.
As a result National Express is delivering 60,000 extra seats over the holidays and serving 11 new towns and cities on Christmas Day itself for the first time, including Sunderland.
