A child sex attacker is facing years behind bars after being convicted of a series of sickening offences on a schoolgirl.

The 30-year-old, of Ashfield, Jarrow, denied wrongdoing during a trial at Newcastle Crown Court but has now been convicted of a total of 14 offences.

Jurors found him guilty of two offences of rape, six of sexual assault on a child under 13, three of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and three of making indecent photographs of a child.

Mr recorder Nicholas Lumley QC remanded Nilsson in custody and said a sentence hearing will take place in November.

Nilsson must now sign the sex offenders register as a result of the convictions.

The judge told him: "You will receive paperwork concerning your responsibility for if and when you are released."
