It comes as Shields plan entertainment for fans after the second leg of the semi-final, with former X Factor contestant Stevie Tennet to perform at 8pm.

The club’s commercial manager, Alisha Henry, said: “We will let supporters know as soon as we find out whether we have any additional tickets.

“We understand that a lot of people are worried they’re going to miss out.

“Whatever happens with the tickets, the team is going to be backed by a huge crowd.

“The interest in this game has surpassed anything we’ve seen before, and hopefully the players will once again respond well to that and produce the result we all want.”

Shields will take a 2-1 lead into the match, having won the first leg in the Midlands on Saturday.

The Mariners Park attendance record of 3,161 – set at the quarter-final against Newport Pagnell Town last month – is on course to be broken after the initial home allocation of tickets sold out almost a week before the match.

Whatever the score, fans are being encouraged to stay back long after the final whistle on Saturday.

All three function rooms at Mariners Park will be open for supporters to celebrate – or drown their sorrows.

Stevie Tennet, from Marsden, South Shields, who appeared on The X Factor in 2014, will perform two 45-minute sets at 8pm.

Meanwhile, the ground will also be open from 11am for supporters to sample the pre-match atmosphere.

The club is expected to announce more about its pre-match and post-match plans in the coming days.
