Charity champion Colin Burgin-Plews is reuniting with his very own ‘mini-me’ for his latest fundraising challenge.
The South Shields dad, aka Big Pink Dress, will take on the Great North 10k in Gateshead this Sunday, before taking part in the Great North 10k Family Mile with his sidekick Ruby Caulfield, aka Little Pink Dress.
Ex-forces rugby player Colin, who stands at 6ft 6ins-tall, first met six-year-old Ruby at the launch of last year’s Great North 10k.
Colin, who has raised thousands for Breast Cancer Now by running in his three-stone costume, presented Ruby, from Northumberland, with her very own Little Pink Dress after she told him how much she loved his.
Big and Little Pink Dress will take on the Great North 10k Family Mile along with Ruby’s mum Louiza and her brother Theo to continue their fundraising for Breast Cancer Now.
They will join families of all abilities who will have the chance to take on a shorter distance running route at this year’s Great North 10k Gateshead.
Colin, who lives in West Harton, said: “I lost a dear friend to breast cancer last year and it means the world to me to try and stop women dying from this horrendous disease.
“I first met Ruby at the launch of the 2015 Great North 10k Gateshead as her mum was running the event and she was taking selfies with me in the background.
“After Louiza asked if she could have a photograph with the Big Pink Dress she said she loved it so much and I asked if she would like one.
“Lil Pink Dress was then born. This will be our second run together after I did the Mini Great North Run with her last year.
“It will be great to be able to run with Ruby again as absolutely love the entire day.”
The Great North 10k Family Events, including a Family Mile and Toddler Dash, are for all enthusiastic runners aged up to 15-years-old.
They are designed to help families enjoy getting active together and will both finish inside Gateshead International Stadium after the North East’s biggest 10k running event on Sunday.
Ruby’s mum Louiza, 32, added: “When Ruby first met Colin last year, she was in absolute awe of him.
“We stayed in touch and Ruby continued to talk about him and said that the Big Pink Dress was the biggest, pinkest princess she had ever seen!
“When Colin gave Ruby her very own Little Pink Dress she was absolutely thrilled, on her own fundraising page she has managed to raise £288 for Breast Cancer Now.
“Ruby wears her Little Pink Dress all of the time, sometimes even to sleep in.
“She is over the moon to be able to run the Great North 10k Family Mile with Colin. They are both continuing their efforts to raise money to find a cure for Breast Cancer which makes me very proud.”
