Those hoping for a day out the house are in luck thanks to Nexus announcing trains will run to a usual weekday timetable, meaning trains will be available throughout the day.

Services across Monday will see trains operating as usual with the only expected disruption coming on Saturday, August 26 when late trains will not be stopping at Sunderland Station. Due to train strikes the station will close after 7pm so Metro passengers for Sunderland should use Park Lane.

This is currently scheduled to be the only change to the Metro service until the Great North Run, when additional trains are expected to run throughout the day, which is often one of the busiest for the service.

When is the August Bank Holiday Monday?

The final traditional Bank Holiday Monday of 2023 falls on Monday, August 28 this year, although it is not the final Bank Holiday of the year. Workers are still treated to two days in December to accommodate the Christmas period.
