Young people will ‘take over’ South Tyneside’s newest public space – The Word, National Centre for the Written Word.

The 14 to 21-year-olds will plan, promote and deliver an event during the opening week of The Word – introducing young audiences to the building and the activities inside.

The special ‘Word Takeover Team’ will also get the chance to plan some performances from local musicians, dancers … whatever they like.

There will be a ‘Takeover Team’ T-shirt and lanyard for those involved, and roles will include greeters, guides, quiz hosts, compares, photographers, filmmakers and programmers.

The information session will be held at The Word on Wednesday, September 28, from 4.30pm to 6pm, which means those in attendance will get to see The Word a month before the public.
