Jarrow Roofing get their Tyne & Wear LGV Summer Cup campaign underway tonight at the Hebburn Sports & Social Ground in an all Northern League clash against Jarrow.
The Roofers will be looking to build on a good run-out where they managed to beat Heaton Stannington 3-0 on Wednesday, having previously lost by that same scoreline at Selkirk last weekend.
Jarrow got their Summer Cup underway on Friday night, defeating Northern Alliance side Hebburn Reyrolle 2-0 in Group B, building on their good performance earlier last week when they went down 2-0 against Division One side Sunderland RCA.
And with another game against higher opposition from the Northern League’s top flight tonight, the Wearside League champions will undoubtedly be looking forward to building fitness and seeing the fixture as a good barometer of what to expect in the coming season.
“Playing Jarrow is always a tough, hard, and competitive fixture due to the geographical closeness of the two teams. We’re pretty much separated by Brockley Whins metro station and the burn,” said Roofing supremo Richie McLoughlin.
“Both sides will desperately want to win, and if they do then they are in the final on Saturday, so the game will stand us in really good stead for the upcoming season.”
“A local clash against a team full of confidence after their promotion to the Northern Division Two last season will be good for our preparation, especially as it promises to be a hard-fought tie. I want the players to battle.”
McLoughlin believes that participation in the Tyne & Wear LGV Summer Cup competition will provide some tough encounters and a good pre-season workout ahead of their first competitive match in August in the FA Cup at Barnoldswick Town.
“With the Summer Cup being a local competition, there’s that extra spice and pride involved; hopefully it will give us a good edge to our play for when the season kicks off,” McLoughlin added
Wearside League team Boldon C.A. take on Sunderland West End at 6.30pm followed by Roofing against Jarrow at 8pm. (£3 for the night).
