The 59-year-old has come under fire from fans for his tactics and the team’s performances at times this season, but the club was 13th in the Premier League when football was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“Steve Bruce is doing a good job in occasionally difficult circumstances,” said Ferdinand, now director of football at Queens Park Rangers.
“And, if you look at his record, it stands up. He wasn’t the people’s first choice, and I know that, but he’s got himself in there, and he’s doing a fantastic job in my opinion.”
Newcastle challenged for the Premier League title during Ferdinand’s time at St James’s Park. The club, however, has been relegated twice under Mike Ashley’s ownership.

“The club has had its ups and downs for the last few years, and the situation regarding the owner hasn’t helped. But things happen in cycles. I’m sure Newcastle will get back to the point they were – where everyone is singing their praises and appreciating the style of football they play.”
Ferdinand is backing #InspiredToGive, which aims to help local communities and grassroots sport during the coronavirus pandemic.
