Newcastle United have confirmed just one permanent transfer this month with Javier Manquillo moving back to Spain to reunite with Rafa Benitez at Celta Vigo. It had appeared that the Magpies would be relatively quiet this month, however, a flurry of reports surrounding the futures of a couple of key players has sparked the window into life on Tyneside.
Both Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson have been linked with moves away this month whilst Newcastle still have a job to do in order to trim Eddie Howe’s squad and free up some money in order to sign any replacements, should either Trippier or Wilson leave this month, Here, we take a look at 15 players that could leave Newcastle United this month, and five that won’t leave St James’ Park before deadline day:
17. Sven Botman
Similarly to Isak, there will undoubtedly be interest in Botman in future transfer windows as he develops into a very good all round centre-back - but it’s unlikely that a mid-season departure is in his future.
18. Anthony Gordon
Gordon is beginning to shine at Newcastle United as he really comes into his own on the left wing. Many sneered at the price the Magpies paid Everton for him this time last year, however, his form so far this campaign suggests that they have now got a star on their hands if he can be nurtured correctly.
19. Joelinton
Joelinton has continued to be one of Newcastle’s most important players and talks that a new deal may be in the pipeline reflects his status in the squad. However, his current injury status means he may not feature for the club again this season - and negotiations over a new deal will likely begin in summer. Photo: Stu Forster/Getty Images
20. Martin Dubravka
It wasn’t too long ago that Dubravka could have found himself moving to a new club, however, Nick Pope’s injury means he is now back as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper with a crucial role to play between now and the end of the season.
