Matty Longstaff is back in training at Newcastle United – but he won’t feature against Aston Villa.

Newcastle United will look to make it three Premier League wins in a row when they take on Dean Smith’s side behind closed doors at St James’s Park tomorrow evening.

However, Bruce will be without Matty Longstaff and his elder brother Sean as well as Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark.

“We’ve seen Matty train yesterday for the first time,” said head coach Bruce. “Sean’s still niggling around. What we’re doing with any muscle injuries, really, is just erring on caution, because if you bring them back, and all of a sudden they’re going to miss three weeks and it’s over with.

“Flo’s out on the grass doing a little bit. Unfortunately, Ciaran, who’s had an operation on his ankle, is a bit sore. They’re not joining in at the moment.”
