Former Newcastle United striker Seydou Doumbia has had his contract at Sion – after refusing to take a pay cut.

The club had asked its players to take a reduced salary during the coronavirus pandemic.

Doumbia was among the players to refuse the proposed pay cut, according to reports in Switzerland.

And the 32-year-old – who had an ill-fated loan spell at Newcastle in the 2015-16 season – had his contract terminated.

Doumbia made three appearances for United and didn’t score a goal.
