10 spa destinations where you can enjoy rest and relaxation in the North East this staycation summer

Spas are back open and there’s plenty of great ones in the North East to take the plunge.

If you fancy a spot of rest and relaxation, we’ve rounded up some of the best spas in the region. Note,that while many of the facilities and treatments are available as we ease out of lockdown, facial treatments will not resume until at least August 15.

For a spa with striking views of the Tyne Valley, try Walwick Hall Hotel. The spa is open to both residents and non-residents and although therapists are unable to offer facial treatments at this time, there's a full list of relaxing body treatments and therapies.
One of the largest, and most popular spas, in the region, Ramside Spa has a number of different indoor and outdoor areas to explore, If you're feeling extra indulgent, you can hire the infinity pool room, pictured. Facials, saunas and steam rooms are due to resume and reopen on August 15.

For true five star luxury take the plunge at Rockliffe Hall. For now, to enable social distancing and enhanced hygiene practices, you can book a 2 hour session in the spa during your stay, which will include a 30 minute swim in the main pool. Guests can also book a 2 hour experience in the Spa Garden as part of their visit. While most of the spa is already open, the poolside heat treatment rooms, as well as the sauna in the Spa Garden and the Mud Rasul, will reopen on August 15.
Wynyard Hall is one of the most peaceful spas around, with views overlooking the hotel's sprawling grounds. The spa is currently open Wednesday to Sunday and is unable to offer facial treatments for now.
Once a 17th century stopping station for travellers winding their way between London and Carlisle, the stone buildings at this hotel now house its 21st century Garage Spa with its industrial chic meets Scandi aesthetic.
Pure luxury inspired by Thailand makes Serenity Spa one of the best around. It's particularly good for romantic spa breaks, with deals including meals in the excellent Ozone restaurant.

In line with Government guidance, there's a reduced treatment list at Matfen Hall, but still plenty to help you unwind. The swimming pool and jacuzzi are also open for members and hotel residents, on a booking system only to help control capacity and for heightened safety. The thermal suite will remain closed and Spa days will be returning in September.
Spa and Spa treatments are back up and running at Slaley Hall. They have nine treatment rooms, including a Luxe Dual suite and finishing touches studio to spoil you with a wide range of products to add to your home spa routine.
Expect traditional Georgian grandeur at Doxford Hall spa. The spa was closed at time of publication, but make sure to keep checking for updates.
