Star of TV's Apprentice calls on South Tyneside’s young entrepreneurs to make a pitch
South Tyneside’s young business people have the chance of a boost from a TV star.
Young people across South Tyneside are being offered the chance to turn a business idea into reality with support from an entrepreneur and Apprentice finalist.
The Adam Corbally Challenge returns for a second year, giving young people the opportunity to bag up to £500 funding and personal mentoring from Adam. The challenge is open to anyone aged 16-29 living in South Tyneside, whether they already run a business they wish to grow, or have a completely new idea.
Entrants do not need a finished business plan, professional presentation or previous experience. Instead, they are asked to record a two-minute video, explaining their idea, the problem it addresses and what they would like to achieve.
The video can be as straightforward or creative as they wish. Entrants can speak straight to camera, demonstrate a product, show examples of their work or involve other people. The judges are interested in the strength of the idea and the person behind it rather than polished filming or professional editing.
Adam reached the final stages of BBC1’s The Apprentice in 2012. He has since worked with schools, colleges, universities and businesses across the country, helping people develop their confidence, enterprise skills and ambitions.
He is also an ambassador for South Tyneside-based social enterprise Crossing Paths CIC, which promotes the local opportunities.
Ian Farrar, CEO of Crossing Paths, said: “There are young people across South Tyneside with great ideas, but they may not always have the confidence, contacts or financial support to take that first step.
“This challenge deliberately keeps the entry process simple. You do not need a lengthy business plan or an expertly edited video. You need an idea, two minutes and the willingness to put yourself forward.”
The winner will be eligible for up to £500 from the John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank, to test an idea, buy equipment, develop a product, promote a business or help get started.
The winner also receives mentoring from Adam, discussing plans, challenges and benefiting from straightforward business guidance.
Entries must be submitted by WhatsApp to 07708 510592 by October 26. The winner will be announced during November as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.
