Pictures from South Shields town centre as customers hit the shops to #SupportLocal on reopening day

It’s been a busy day so far in South Shields town centre as a number of non-essential shops reopened for business for the first time since the coronavirus lockdown was imposed.

Our reporter Sophie and photographer Frank headed out to meet with shoppers and chat to traders as many stores welcomed customers back for the first time since March. Check out our pictures from the first day back at the shops – and see if you can spot anyone you know!
