The owners at No.4 Bistro in East Boldon, formerly just No.4, used the closure caused by the pandemic to completely renovate the site, which this week welcomed diners once more.

The former café, in Station Road, has been transformed into a modern bistro, with a new look and menu.

Extensive work has been carried out to make the venue more spacious and ergonomic, with an open pass to the kitchen so diners can see the chefs at work.

As a result of customer feedback on the previous venue, the bistro now hosts a sun-trap courtyard, an open-plan interior, more toilets and new furnishings, fixtures and fittings.

Other new additions include an alcohol licence, as well as a new full lunch and dinner menu.

The daytime offering will still feature scones, sandwiches and cakes, but there will be more supper club evenings, where customers can enjoy menus prepared by a local chef, which will be taking place on the first Saturday of every month.

New social distancing measures include QR code menus to correspond with the Government’s Track and Trace system and to create a more hygienic way of ordering.

Seats will be socially distanced, extra hygiene policies in place and staff re-trained, to keep customers and employees safe during the pandemic.

Owners of No.4 Bistro, Danielle and Sean McCann, hope to increase jobs in the area, with their extended opening hours of Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10am – 4pm.

Danielle said: “We’re extremely excited to re-open No.4 Bistro. We’ve managed to make the changes to the venue and although it is bigger, it is still very welcoming and homely. Although it has taken months of planning, the results are really worth it. We look forward to welcoming our regular clientele and many more newcomers to the venue.

“We hope that our customers enjoy the changes and appreciate that the feedback came from them, proving that we listen to our customers and react accordingly.”
