Series of water main ruptures on South Shields estate causes disruption to supply
Work has gone on through the night to repair a number of burst water mains which happened on a South Shields estate.
Northumbrian Water teams were called out following an initial rupture in Whiteleas Way yesterday, Sunday, April 26, which has affected people in the NE34 area.
The company has since been called to further leaks at the junction of Rembrant Avenue and Millais Avenue and nearby Galsworthy Road, with repairs set to be complete later today.
The company has thanked people for their patience and has told customers the problems may have been causing issue with their pressure or discolouration of their water, which should clear once work was finished.

A Northumbrian Water spokesperson said: “Customers in South Shields may be experiencing disruption to their water supply, or low pressure, as our teams work to complete repairs to burst water pipes supplying the area.
“Water supplies should now been restored to all properties that were affected while we repaired the initial burst, which happened in Whiteleas Way yesterday.
”Some customers may experience low pressure during the course of the afternoon as the network returns to normal.
“However, pressure issues that resulted from this burst caused two further bursts this morning in Galsworthy Road and near the junction of Millais Gardens and Rembrandt Avenue.

“We are currently working to complete these repairs as quickly and safely as possible while following social distancing guidelines.
“People in those areas close to these repairs may see some disruption this afternoon and we will keep customers updated, including through our Twitter account @nwater_care.”
