Michael Ward, who is the new boss at The Lookout on the Lawe Top, has taken on the role of relief manager at the Marsden Inn as staff and customers alike faced an uncertain Christmas when the venue was confronted by closure.

Earlier this week, the Marsden Inn posted a message on its Facebook page warning that it would temporarily close over the festive period due to “staffing difficulties”.

The Marsden Inn will remain open after Michael Ward stepped in.

Speaking to the Gazette, he said: “I hate seeing a pub close, especially a pub of this standard. All the staff were happy and customers were really rallying round the place.”

The 47-year-old has been in the industry for more than 30 years, including a decade of work at the Little Haven Hotel.

And he has big plans to revitalise the Marsden Inn, bringing back its accommodation rooms and offering a fresh and exciting menu, thanks to the work of a new chef.

He added: “I always get excited when I take on a new property – it's great fun.”

Michael Ward is also the new tenant at The Lookout.

In a post on Facebook, the Marsden Inn team also thanked its customers for their support as it prepared to continue trading as normal.

The message said: “We are overwhelmed with the level of support and positive comments that the pub and staff have received when we reluctantly announced the pubs temporary closure, and we hope that all those of you who were saddened by the news will now join us over the festive period for a drink or two (or three!)

“Merry Christmas to all our lovely supporters and customers! The Marsden Inn team hope to see you all soon.”

It is hoped that food will be served at the Marsden Inn from Saturday, December 21. The pub is due to be open from 11am until 11pm each day.

Michael has urged punters to come down and enjoy their local pub.
