It has an illustrious history. Once known as the UK’s oldest provincial evening newspaper it is now a round-the-clock multimedia operation. The Gazette - as those of us, like myself, who used to deliver it on paper rounds will know - still lands on doorsteps six days a week. But in modern times, our readers also want all today’s news and information at their fingertips via mobile phones and laptops in a fast-paced digital world.

If there’s something happening in South Shields, Jarrow or Hebburn or in our villages, Boldon, Whitburn and Cleadon, the Gazette will be covering it. Every day our reporters are out and about. You’ll see them at council meetings, at court, at sports events and in our towns providing unrivalled news coverage across South Tyneside.

Many of us have grown up with the Gazette. It’s at the heart of life in South Tyneside. Like shopping on King Street or in the Viking Centre. Or a day at the beach or Marine Park. It’s our paper. Our website. Yours too. And we are proud to represent it and bring the news to you all.

The Shields Gazette has been South Tyneside's main news service for decades. We've always been here, through the good times and the bad.
