Students make Fleming Court Care Home resident’s 100th birthday unforgettable

Maisie Dalziel, a resident of Fleming Court Care Home in Jesmond, had asked for “nicely written cards” to mark her 100th birthday, leading for staff to appeal to the local community to make this happen.

Among the well-wishers were deaf students from the Percy Hedley Foundation’s British Sign Language Choir. They arrived with handmade cards and gifts, before treating Maisie to a touching rendition of ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’, followed by a signed version of 'Happy Birthday'.

Mandy Davison, BSL Choir lead and Higher Level Special Support Assistant at Northern Counties school said:

“We wanted to come and do a special thing for a special lady.

“Reaching such a remarkable milestone is inspiring, and our learners were honoured to be part of Maisie’s special celebration.”

Fleming Court Care Home staff said there wasn’t a “dry eye in the house” from the “truly special performance”.

Maisie’s special day also included a performance from songstress Claire Louise and countless gifts and cards from the local community.
