Training for primary school teaching (5-11 years) and secondary (11-16 years) is available through CTTP post-graduate programmes that lead to Qualified Teacher Status. Ninety six per cent of our trainees go on to secure a teaching role.

Our Central Training Team is based at Carmel College, Darlington, with ‘Lead Schools’ across the region from Northumberland to the Tees Valley. Our latest Ofsted report remarked: "High-quality and personalised training contributes well to trainee' and NQT's development as reflective, confident teachers who are deeply committed to their professional development."

Our new Director of Teacher Training remarks: "I am absolutely delighted to join Carmel Teacher Training Partnership following 17 happy and successful years as Headteacher of St. Anthony's in Sunderland. As a trustee of Schools North East for many years, I am fully committed to the education of the young people of the North East and the development of our teachers at all career stages. I have worked with CTTP, as a senior leader in a Lead School, for two decades and fully appreciate the crucial importance of excellent initial teacher training."

One of our current students, Alice McGee, has shared the following: "I have really enjoyed the supportive nature of the course amongst both trainers and my fellow trainees. The schools that I have been placed in as part of my training programme have made my experience really enjoyable, considering the pressures of the year. The training provided by CTTP and its cluster schools has been really helpful in developing my teaching practice and has helped me to become a more confident individual."

Another current student, Morgan Ozuzu, commented: “The School Direct training course has provided me with a very realistic view of the everyday life and responsibilities of being a teacher, which will undoubtedly prepare me well when starting my teaching career. The blend of first-hand classroom experience, as well as professional development training sessions, has equipped me with various tools, skills and strategies that I feel confident using, to successfully provide a valuable education and realise my passion for teaching.”
