Pupils from St Bede's Catholic Primary School, Jarrow are currently taking part in the "Start Small; Dream Big" initiative - a DfE funded programme, which is being implemented by The Careers & Enterprise Company (CEC).
Children from nursery through to Year 6 have engaged with a range of school visitors, from police officers, to landscape gardeners, to even poets! Pupils have reflected on what skills would be required to be successful in these roles and have thought about whether or not they would interested in taking on one of these roles in the future.

They were exposed to a range of different job opportunities, including – brick laying, design management, site management and being an electrician.

Alexander said, “It was fun. I would like to be an electrician.”
Belle said, “I would like to be a site manager when I’m older. I think I would be good at that.”
Mrs McLaren (Deputy Headteacher) who is leading the initiative, reports that the school is working hard to raise aspirations and increase the awareness pupils have of the world of work.
