South Shields Football Club attracts the next generation as youngsters visit Mariners Park

Children from Nurserytime Kindergarten on Beach Road, South Shields, had a pitch perfect day out on a visit to South Shields Football Club (SSFC) on February 21.

The youngsters had the opportunity to meet the first team players and even kick-started their own careers by taking a few shots in the ground.

They were given a tour of the dug-out, tunnel, 3G training pitch, the VIP lounge and dressing rooms and received their own certificates at the end of the day.

In addition, the children and their families were all gifted free tickets to the Club’s next home game on Saturday, February 29.

Three-year-olds Jake and George said their favourite part of the day was “scoring lots of goals” whilst Gina, also three, was a big fan of “meeting the football boys”.

The nursery enjoys a close relationship with the Football Club, which hosts regular sessions with the kids to encourage physical education and outdoor activities.

“Part of Nurserytime ethos is to embrace the outdoors providing essential, regular opportunities to explore and learn in the outdoor environment,” said manager, Helen Coulson.

“Alongside this we recognise the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle and subsequently taking part in more active physical education sessions.”

She continued: “It was a bit windy but the children had such an exciting day from arriving on the metro to completing a letter hunt alongside coach Andy which took them to all areas of their grounds.”

And the children made quite an impression of the Mariner’s staff too.

“Coach Steve commented on how well-behaved our children are and that we are welcome back any time,” added Helen.

“As Nurserytime proposes to 'take children on adventure' we certainly did that.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to SSFC, they are all really good with the kids and go out of their way to make it special for them.”

The groups is already looking forward to visiting again in the nicer weather.
