An industrial unit in Washington is being put to urgent use during the coronavirus crisis, becoming home to a temporary hospital for patients across the North East.

Construction is fast underway on the Nightingale Hospital for the North East of England. It’s being created at a unit bigger than a football pitch, near Sunderland’s Nissan plant.

These pictures from our photographer Frank Reid show how work is coming along, with the hospital set to be in operation by around the end of April.
