South Tyneside has remembered those lost in the covid pandemic as well as paid tribute to health heroes, frontline workers and the huge collective effort in fighting the coronavirus on the anniversary of the first national lockdown.

The national day of reflection has been marked in the borough, with a minute’s silence at midday and plans for a vigil at 8pm tonight.
