Over the last week, communities across the UK have united in their ultimate goal of helping the elderly, vulnerable and in-need where they live.

And across South Tyneside, we asked you to let us know about the people in your homes, or in your lives, who are making life in lockdown a happier and more manageable thing.

Maria Wilkinson: “I'd want to thank my husband Jim Wilkinson who does so much to look after me and our sons. He does so much and always tries to cheer me up with treats like flowers or chocolate and sweets and cakes. We love him so much.”

Joanne Bennett: “I want to thank supermarkets all their staff, delivery drivers, cleaners, they have had to deal with the mounting pressure they are under. Their workers are frightened as well as are many of us. We need to keep them safe.”

Liz Carlucci: “Thank you to hotels who are looking after the key workers who are working and living away from home.”

Sheila Hernon: “Thank you to the council cleansing team! There'd be a lot more than Covid19 out there if it wasn't for them.”
