This is the scene in South Shields as families remain in lockdown on the first day of the Easter Holidays

It may be the first day of the Easter Holidays but the beaches and parks across South Shields are empty.

Although the sun is shining, residents across South Tyneside are sticking to the Government lockdown guidelines that were imposed two weeks ago.

Along with the rest of the UK, residents in the borough are now only allowed to leave their homes to buy essential food items and medicine or to exercise once a day.

The first day of the Easter Holidays would usually be a course for celebration for children across the region.

Instead, the two-week Easter break has little significance following the closure of schools last month.
