The May Day Bank Holiday has been moved from its usual Monday to Friday this year, to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day, the end of World War II in Europe.

The panic-buying kickstarted by the coronavirus lockdown is a thing of the past and supermarket shelves have more or less returned to normal.

But social distancing measures are still in place and many stores are still limiting the number of people allowed inside.

Here’s a look at when South Tyneside’s supermarkets will be open over the long weekend.

All stores across South Tyneside will be open between 8am and 10pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am and 4pm on Sunday.

Morrisons

Stores in South Shields, Jarrow and Seaburn will be open from 7am until 10pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

The Prince Edward Road stores will be open from 8am to 8pm on Friday, 8am to 9pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

The East Boldon local store is open from 7am to 9pm throughout the weekend, the Stanhope Road Local from 7am to 11pm and the Simonside Local from 6am to 11pm.

Tesco

The Towers Place superstore will be open from 6am to 10pm on Friday and Saturday and 10-4pm on Sunday.

The Prince Edward Road and Westoe Crown Express stores will be open from 6am to 11pm and 7am-10pm respectively across the weekend.

Stores across Sunderland will be open from 8am-10pm on Friday and Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

Lidl

Stores will be open from 8am to 8pm on Friday, 8am to 10pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
