Volunteers asked to help ensure Covid vaccination clinics run smoothly

Teams of helpers are being recruited to help support the plans to roll out the Covid-19 vaccination clinics across South Tyneside.

Inspire South Tyneside is helping the NHS to seek out people who can help ensure the sessions will run smoothly as the programme expands across the borough.

It is looking for registered clinicians, who may be able to support the delivery of the jabs, as well as people who can help by marshalling the sessions.

It comes after the first patients across the borough were invited to attend their appointment for the immunisation, with the over 80s and some health workers to be covered in the first phase of the scheme, which is being managed by invitation only.

They will be run at Cleadon Park Primary Care Centre, on the corner of Prince Edward Road and King George Road in South Shields, Flagg Court Health Centre, behind Ocean Road in the town centre, and The Glen Primary Care Centre in Hebburn.

Inspire says anyone who helps out will be able to gain experience of working with the NHS as they help their community.

It added: “The role of the marshal will be to manage the patient flow at the vaccination sites.

"You will be ensuring social distancing is maintained at the main entrances, sending patients to the relevant room within the health centres and ensuring they exit the building correctly.”

It adds those who join the effort should have good people skills.

The shifts will run from Monday to Friday, between 8am and 8pm, and on Saturdays between 9am and 5pm.
