Up and down the country, people are deciding on their new year’s resolutions – with many pledging to be more healthy, whether it’s changing diet or taking part in more exercise.

But would you like to try a plant-based diet?

At time of writing, more than 840 people had voted in our daily Facebook poll which asked: “As thousands take part in Veganuary, would you consider trying a plant-based diet?”

Only 34% opted to give it a go, with 66% of those who took part voting “no”.

Here is how you reacted on the Shields Gazette Facebook page:

Stephen Sullivan: “I went vegan two years ago, best thing I have ever done! So healthy!”

Michael Jones: “Unfortunately most people don’t realise you cannot get all the required vitamins and minerals on a plant-based diet.

“Humans are carnivores so those who do this without looking into it properly could seriously damage your health.”

Pete Davies: “I'll stick to my carnivore diet thanks.”

Leanne McCulla: “Me, my husband and my eldest are all vegan. I don't buy meat into the house but my two younger children aren't old enough to decide for themselves what they'd like so they eat what they want like when we're out and about etc.

“We take a multivitamin daily just to cover our bases. Honestly being vegan has opened my eyes up to so many amazing foods I'd never of looked at or tried.”
